Volunteers will join Metroparks staff to plant native wetland trees in a natural area
Dates: November 12th and 13th
Time: 10am-2pm each day, including a break for lunch. We are not planning to provide lunch but will have snacks available for volunteers.
Where: Meeting at the nature center at Lake St Clair
31300 Metro Pkwy, Harrison Township, MI 48045
What: Planting a variety of bare-root trees in the nature trails area behind the nature center, to replace the many dead cottonwood trees. These standing cottonwoods died from intense flooding over the past couple of years, and now present a hazard to park patrons, wildlife, and nearby trails. We will be planting 400 trees in total this fall.
Volunteers should plan to walk off-trail where there may be muddy soil, tall vegetation and tripping hazards such as logs and branches. We recommend wearing closed toe shoes and long pants, and dress for the weather. We provide gloves but volunteers can feel free to bring their own, and everyone should bring anything else they need to be comfortable, such as a water bottle.
