Michigan Wetlands Association’s Members Webinar Series

Join us for a webinar presentation by Dr. Randall Schaetzl, University Distinguished Professor, Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences, Michigan State University

Michigan has perhaps the most complex glacial history of any state. At least four glacial lobes entered the state and left behind a vast array of glacial landforms and sediments. Most of what we see today on the landscape was formed as the ice retreated from the region, between 24 and 10 thousand years ago. Dr. Schaetzl will discuss the various landforms and landscapes that the ice left behind, focusing on those that are, today, wetlands. Most of Michigan’s wetlands occupy former lake basins and plains, and so, much of the talk will be devoted to the history of the many glacial lakes that once covered parts of Michigan.
