Western Lake Erie Cluster
Service area: Monroe, Lenawaee, & Wayne counties (Michigan)
About us: The Western Lake Erie Cluster (WLEC) of the Stewardship Network formed in 2013 with leadership from the River Raisin Institute. We live and work in a very special area, side by side with rare and imperiled terrestrial habitats and Lake Erie – the most biologically diverse body among the Great Lakes.
We want to create a strong network between the many groups already working to protect and restore these special areas, and build a better appreciation for these amazing resources among local citizens. Volunteer activities include beach clean up and invasive species removal work days. Workshops and events include the Wildlife Series presentations and Clean Boats Clean Waters boat washes.
Participating organizations include: Black Swamp Conservancy, Cardno, City of Monroe, Consumers Power, DTE Energy, La-Z-Boy, Lake Erie Waterkeeper, Metroparks of the Toledo Area, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Karst Conservancy, Monroe County Parks, Monroe County Planning, River Raisin Institute, The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Habitat Council.
