Land Protection Director

Wildtype is an ecologically focused native plant nursery and environmental contractor looking to fill several field technician and nursery positions for the 2024 season. These are full-time positions that start in March and run through fall. Part-time employment will also be considered.
The nursery positions involve transplanting, watering, weeding, and preparing orders for pickup or delivery. The field positions involve working at the nursery as well as off-site on a variety of environmental stewardship projects, including invasive plant species management, planting, and other restoration projects. Conservation Technician
Kalamazoo Nature Center (Kalamazoo, MI)
Conservation Technicians are responsible for carrying out ecological stewardship work at KNC and off-site with clients of the Ecological Services Program. Field work may include woody shrub and tree management, herbaceous invasive species control, use of hand tools and mechanical equipment (chainsaws, brush cutters, augers, etc.), occasional use of heavier equipment (tractor, skid steer, brush hog, etc.), biological surveys, responsible use of herbicides, prescribed fire, native plug/seed planting, tree planting, trail maintenance, and similar activities.
This is primarily a field-based position performing field labor in often arduous conditions in all weather for up to 10 hours a day. During the off-season and/or at other times as needed, technicians will assist in a variety of tasks and activities to support the functioning of the KNC Conservation Stewardship Department. These activities may include assisting with equipment inventories and maintenance, supporting research activities, data entry, project planning, volunteer management, or other relevant support tasks, as necessary.

2024 Land Steward
Ozaukee Washington Land Trust (West Bend, WI)
We are seeking a passionate individual to assist with the stewardship, maintenance, and restoration of our nature preserves. Qualified individuals will demonstrate an enthusiasm to learn and grow skills related to ecological conservation. Utilizing sustainable management techniques and strong initiative, Land Stewards can look forward to getting their hands dirty restoring beautiful forests, prairies, wetlands, and other natural areas within Ozaukee, Washington, and Milwaukee Counties. Based primarily in the field, Land Stewards will work closely with OWLT/RRF staff and volunteers to control invasive species, plant native trees/shrubs, conduct prescribed fires, and maintain and improve trails, infrastructure, and access points. Land stewards will be expected to work in a variety of outdoor conditions and terrain.
The Land Steward position offers exposure to a variety of restoration techniques and the opportunity to work closely with some of the best conservation professionals in Wisconsin. Many past Land Stewards have launched careers in conservation, including three of our full-time team members.

Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Crew Member
Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network (Traverse City, MI)
The HWA Crew Member works with the Invasive Species Specialist and other HWA Crew Member to implement the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program, and the Forest Health Environmental Protection Agency subgrant, which funds the position. Primary responsibilities include working to survey forests and trees in 4 counties for invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), conduct delimitation surveys to prepare sites with active HWA infestations for summer treatments, and treat HWA on prepped sites. Other duties include creating and maintaining maps, working with private landowners, assisting with trainings, engaging volunteers, and other duties as needed.
